Democrats still outnumber Republicans in Erie County merely the margin between the two has tightened in the past year.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Land — which collects data on the state's nigh 9 million registered voters — at that place are now 85,610 registered Democrats in Erie County, compared to 97,767 in Oct 2020, a drib of 12,157 voters.

Parties expect for silver lining
Aside from the voter purge, Erie County Republican Party Chairman Verel Salmon said the margin between the parties has tightened considering of a decline in Erie's population, and voter frustration with Democratic leadership in Washington, D.C.

"People come in and say 'I've been a Democrat all my life but I just tin't stand the decisions being made in the White House,' so they grab a registration course and make the alter," Salmon said.
According to land data, 1,071 voters changed their party affiliation from Democrat (or other parties) to Republican so far in 2021. That's compared to 896 voters who switched to the Democratic Political party in the same timeframe.
Salmon said many Erie County Democrats are moderate and even conservative and don't care much for the more progressive ideas coming out of their leaders or the amount of out-of-state money supporting Autonomous candidates locally.

"I think voters changing their registration to Republican is a good thing because I call up information technology's in our county'south best interest if at that place was a petty more than balance in the registration," Salmon said.
Erie County Democratic Political party Chairman Jim Wertz said despite voters switching sides, the majority of new voters are still aligning with the Democrats.
"Equally more young people become politically active and engaged, we're seeing that they have more Democratic-leaning ideals and are voting and registering with the Democratic Political party," Wertz said.
So far in 2021, the canton has reported 20,018 registered Democrats between the ages of xviii-34, compared to fourteen,193 registered Republicans in the same age group.

Erie Canton saw a total of 2,939 new voter or change applications so far in 2021. Hither's a breakdown of those applications:
